A platform for young aspiring dancers to experience the professional dance world.
Our Platforms Youth Company was established in 2015 to create a platform for young dancers to experience the professional dance world. We do this by allowing them to gain knowledge and experience about how a professional dance company operates. Aspiring young dancers are supported through a rigorous audition process, which leads to an annual six-month creative development program culminating in a four-show season.
Our Platforms Youth Company is regarded as one of Australia's most successful youth programs because we offer hundreds of young dancers professional performance experience. We also allow emerging choreographers and creative artists to develop their skills. Noteworthy past performance seasons include Dualities (2015), Factions (2016), Chromosome X (2017), Void (2018), Within Us (2019), Desolate (2021), Mother (2021), Monark (2022), Play (2023), Sweat (2024) and Dreamreign (2025).
SAMUEL DOMINIC - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Samuel Dominic is the Artistic Director of Platforms Youth Company at Scimm. Dance, leading the artistic vision, choreography, and creative development of the company from 2026 onward.
Melbourne-based and internationally experienced, Samuel brings a deep understanding of contemporary and lyrical dance, grounded in strong musicality and performance quality. His career spans elite coaching, choreography, and adjudication across Australia and New Zealand, with international credits including CYD Convention (UK), KAIROS Dance Convention (NZ), and the Australian Dance Festival. In 2020, Samuel coached Australian competitors at the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, supporting dancers at the highest level of youth training.
As a choreographer and mentor, Samuel is known for his ability to refine both the artistic and physical aspects of dance, fostering confident, expressive performers. His works are consistently recognised at major competitions and have become audience favourites within the Scimm. community.
At Platforms Youth Company, Samuel oversees the annual production and provides ongoing mentorship, guiding dancers through a professional creative process that prioritises growth, connection, and artistic integrity - while nurturing a strong sense of ensemble and community.

Platforms Youth Company is an opportunity for young aspiring and technical dancers with a strong sense of performance and contemporary style to work in a professional company environment.
In 2026, Platforms Youth Company dancers will work with Artistic Director Samuel Dominic, alongside Founders Scott Pokorny & Tim Barnes and a special international guest choreographer (to be announced very soon!) to produce a performance season.
Our Platforms Youth Company is designed to work around a dancer’s regular studio training. Sessions are held on Sundays from January to July, and dancers must be available for every rehearsal.
To be considered for a position in our Platforms Youth Company for 2026, applicants must be between 10 and 19 years old as of January 1st, 2025.
